Creamy Tomato Sauce

Tomato and basil combine with Greek nonfat yogurt to create a bright and creamy sauce.

Creamy Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp. quality olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, minced (2 cups)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 20 oz can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup Dannon® Oikos® Plain Greek Nonfat Yogurt
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan + more for garnish
  • 1/2 cup shredded basil (or 2 Tbsp prepared pesto)
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • 1 Lb. penne or ziti, cooked
Directions

Prep Time: 15 minutes

  1. In a sauté pan heat oil. Add onions and cook 3-4 minutes. Add garlic and pepper flakes and cook 1 minute. Add tomatoes and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer sauce 15 minutes. (Cook pasta according to package directions.)
  2. Just before serving add yogurt, parmesan and basil to the sauce and season to taste; Toss hot pasta with hot sauce and serve with more Parmesan if desired.
